The Zen of Secure Computing

Time: 2:38 p.m. - 3:05 p.m.

Abstract:

In 1999, Tim Peters shared what became known as the Zen of Python—a set of guiding principles that shaped how developers approach Python code. Now, 26 years later you can still find these principles tucked away in the Python interpreter itself.

Inspired by that spirit, this session presents a distilled set of actionable, experience-driven practices—habits and mindsets you can adopt to foster cybersecurity in both your personal and professional digital life. Call it a Zen of Secure Computing, if you will.

Over the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of learning directly from some of the best developers, incident responders, and ethical hackers across the technology and cybersecurity industries. As a longtime developer and current white-hat hacker, I’ve put together and refined a set of principles designed to make you significantly harder to compromise.

It is 2026, but we are still seeing common, poor security practices causing disruptive cybersecurity incidents. These practices won’t make you unhackable—but they will make you a more resilient, aware, and secure digital citizen. Your efforts today can improve your own personal cyber safety and contribute to building a more secure culture across your organization.
